I know y’all love watching all those fixer upper shows on TV – well, we LIVE those moments and craziness does happen just like you see on TV!
Today started out with this garage that people left completely full of stuff after vacating their home:
I don’t get it. Some people totally just walk away from stuff like this.
Mind you, we’ve already dumped a TON of trash out before the photos you see above. What’s left is what we needed to go through to see what we could donate, sell or giveaway.
Our deadline is seriously today – because, well – the new tenants are moving in TOMORROW. Nothing like last minute for us crazy Haiglers!!!
To make matters all the more convenient, Brock decided today would be a good day to be sick. So, we started out at the doctor getting meds for his bronchitis. Our kids have had this stuff so much we pretty much know when it’s time to get to the doctor and what they need to be prescribed. Poor kiddos.
That meant we didn’t get to tackle the garage til after 1pm AND Brock got to be our little assistant. That made for a super lovely fun afternoon of cleaning out, don’t y’all know>?>?>
And for that reason, I don’t have near as many photos as I would have liked to document, but here’s how we did it.
First, I contacted a local ministry with a boutique store to see if they could schedule a pick up for later in the day at the house.
Turning Point Ministries didn’t let me down and I gathered everything I thought they might be able to use and resale. Their truck came before 5pm to load up lots of goodies!
Sending items to places like these helps stop domestic violence and they love to pick up your stuff for you!! You can also find places like the Salvation Army or the Veterans that will pick up items for free.
Second, we took a truck load of items to Goodwill. I heard a commercial on the radio over the holidays that really made me feel differently about giving to Goodwill. Maybe you think it’s just giving junk. No. Your donations to Goodwill stores helps provide jobs and training for those that may not be able to get that any other way.
We pulled through right before dinner with our drop-off, and goodness, there was a line of people waiting to donate!!
There was a bunch of stuff we had that was either too big to haul off, or just too junky to donate. For those items, I posted this pic to Facebook and several other neighborhood sites as FREE PICK UP NOW!
It was fantastic!! Within 2 hours, several of those big items were gone!
We also found lots of yard stuff and sold it on Facebook as a bundle for $50.
After sorting out almost everything, it was time to pick up the girls and grab some dinner!
I’m pretty sure our kids might not be REALTORS, they always end up with us in random houses!!
But, we did decide that Brock would seriously do so much better in an empty house – there was nothing for him to get into or destroy!!!
He just loved dancing with his sisters.
We ended the night by hauling off the few things I decided to keep to storage.
Brian is rolling his eyes here.
Noooo, I won’t KEEP it all – but reuse and recycle and sell. 🙂
There are some amazing chairs that I’m pretty pumped about redoing. And that headboard ya’ll.
I can’t wait to paint it white. And it was pretty hilarious watching Brian maneuver that thing to the elevator at the storage unit while I watched from the door with the kiddos!!
I wish I could tell you we’re COMPLETELY finished.
It’s time to get kiddos in bed and we’ll head back out to gather one last load (don’t worry, a sitter will be here hahaha).
This is the crazy life we lead. I love this adventure 🙂
