When we took our annual Christmas Eve PJs photo last night, there were lots of smiles and giddy anticipation that Christmas was almost here.
But it actually took like 14 takes to get that photo, you do realize this, right??
Brock decided it would be fun to jump up and go see what that camera on the tripod was all about.
I’m just surprised we were all still calm and not jumping up to stop him!!
Something that comes to my thoughts each year around this time is to remember that behind all those beautiful and seemingly perfect photos we see splashed on social media are real people with struggles.
It’s easy to compare our own lives with those we see in the photos and think some how we don’t measure up.
I’m here to remind you of this tonight:
You can’t compare your insides with other people’s outsides.
For example –
What you didn’t see behind the scenes of that beautiful photo of our own family is the fact that a stomach bug was passed to me and instead of spending my favorite day of the year with my family, I was here all day confined to my bedroom and bathroom – hugging a toilet bowl.
Fun times.
Real life.
As Glennie the Great would say, “It is what it is!”
I could sit and sulk and think the world is terrible.
Or, I could be happy that I got to spend most of the day sleeping. God knows I surely needed some help catching up on sleep.
After spending the majority of the day in silence resting, I decided to flip on Netflix tonight (which I rarely do for myself) and find a good Christmas movie.
Oh. My. Goodness. Gracious.
Have y’all seen the movie with Candace Cameron Bure, The Heart of Christmas ?
This sappy movie is inspired by a true story and shares how one mom comes to remember what it’s all about – to cherish each moment we’re given each day.
I sat here crying my eyes out.
Maybe this is the reason God has me to slow down today. To see the blessings each day brings and know that Christmas can be any day – even Halloween.
I pray that you’ve enjoyed the day – no matter what your circumstances have been.
Merry Christmas, friends.

Awwww Starr, praying that tomorrow finds you feeling great. Sometimes God just has to put us in bed to get us to slow down.
Love you lady, this too shall pass.
