Earlier this week we started a fun family adventure with our Shepherd on the Search!
This is just the coolest little advent daily activity including a shepherd (kinda like the elf on the shelf) and all about finding Christ in Christmas!
Each week has a verse and theme – and the daily activities all reflect that verse and theme.
This week we learned about how Jesus came to be the light of the world from John 8:12:
12 Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
Each day this week we’re doing something that has to do with lights.
Tonight, our challenge was to be a light in the world like Jesus. We did this in 2 ways –
1st – we put out luminary candles on the walkway at our church to welcome friends gathering there tonight. I have such fond memories of doing this at our church when I was a little girl during our Christmas program.
2nd – we participated as a family in our annual shoebox packing night for the local homeless community.
This project is one of my very favorite things we do as a family each year. We save items for these shoeboxes all year long at our house. Then, our kids get to see us pack them away to share with others that may not get gifts this Christmas.
I would highly recommend any family joining together to pack shoeboxes or even ziploc bags to hand out to those in need. You can pack snacks, hats, scarves, gloves, toiletries and small toys.
Our little church packed over 70 boxes tonight!
This was a #funfriday indeed!
Invite friends over for a night of soup and shoeboxes! You’ll have fun getting to know each other and serving others at the same time!
