This is what my fun Friday included (nerd alert):
Books. And a whole lot of doing NOTHING AT ALL.
It was the most boring fun day I’ve had in forever (does that even make sense??).
Oct-Dec is my most favorite time of the year. AND it is hands down the BUSIEST time of year for our family. Can you relate?
birthdays and anniversaries
fall stuff – hayrides and pumpkins and spice and everything nice
CHRISTMAS: TREESSSS and tree farms and tree decorating and Christmas music and church programs and nativities and and and do I need to continue???
You know the drill. Your family is probably similar to ours. October comes and goes, then wait…what…what happened to November????
Here’s December and we have something planned EVERY SINGLE WEEKEND FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR!!!! How did that happen?? Again>>>???
Right smack in the middle of the madness lands our anniversary. Brian and I don’t buy each other gifts. Actually, we don’t buy birthday, anniversary or Christmas gifts for each other. We never have.
Instead, we get away.
A few days to breathe in the midst of the chaos clears the air for us. We don’t plan ANYTHING. We may go out of town, but I can assure you there are NO PLANS TO DO ANYTHING. We bring books. We’re like old people. Sitting. And reading. And dreaming. And eating. And sleeping. And reading some more.
I told you we were nerds.
These books. Goodness. I am so excited about what I’ve been reading the past couple of days!!
First of all – my friend, Gary Morland – he used to be on the radio in Charlotte and he’s been a mentor of mine for several years. He wrote a book!!!! It’s not coming out until summer of 2017, A Family Shaped by Grace: How to Get Along with the People Who Matter Most.
I’m helping read the advanced copy before Gary makes his last few edits and I CANNOT WAIT FOR YOU TO READ THIS BOOK!
Brian had to remind me at one point that everyone can’t read this now. So, next summer – you’ll have to read it with me. I can’t wait to share how Gary brings us along on a journey to get along with our families, even those of us with dysfunctional and crazy families!! More to come next summer.
Next – The Magnolia Story by Chip and Joanna Gaines. If you watch Fixer Upper, you’ll love reading behind the scenes of who they are and how they got to be America’s favorite renovation show! Honestly, I laughed because it felt like I was reading the story of Brian and I. I couldn’t put the book down. I read it in one afternoon. It just clicked for me and where I’m at in my life.
I’ll write more about what I learned from this book later – but goodness, I’ve been inspired to have a refreshed vision to go after my dreams!
That’s my journal in pink that says AMAZING THINGS CAN HAPPEN! I’m remembering that these days. Sometimes it’s so easy to forget, right?
Have you had a boring fun day lately? Plan it. Do nothing. Grab a book. Sit. Dream. Listen.
Sometimes that’s exactly the kind of fun we need most in our busy lives.
