Here we are, another #funfriday  and my day has been spent like this:

It might not look like FUN to you, but I’ve been like a kid in a candy store!!

See – that’s my friend, Gary, up there on stage.

Some of our local friends might remember him from the 91.9 radio station!

He and his family are hosting a writing workshop this weekend called “Hope*Writers”!

It has been nothing short of ahhhhmazing.

My hands are hurting I’ve taken so many notes. My eyes are tired from focusing on slides, but man it was all worth it!

Now I’m headed to a white barn in the country to meet with other conference attendees and I couldn’t be more excited! I mean, who wouldn’t want to go to a barn that looks like this???

This is one of those days where Brian, Joy and Chloe have totally stepped in to take over for our weekly family tradition. I’m not here tonight for the family fun – but they are!!

That brings me to this: What do you do when it’s the last minute and you’re clueless about how to have family fun on a Friday afternoon? (happens to us more often than you would think actually)

5 Last Minute Ideas for Family Fun When You’re Clueless

1 – find a free local festival or event – aka the Fall Festival happening tonight at our local elementary school. $5 got our entire family in for fun and games and prizes – all to benefit the PTA.

2 – do something that is out of the ordinary for your family

If you never play board games, pull one out. If you never get a Redbox movie, stop and grab one for $1. If you never bake cookies, grab a pack of premade dough at the grocery store. Breaking the ordinary is automatically fun for your family!!
3 – do something to serve someone else in need

This never fails to bring unexpected fun into our family. Take donuts to a family having a rough week. Take flowers to an elderly shut in. Bake cookies for the local firemen. Make an unexpected stop by a friend or family member’s home just to drop a smile and thank you card for being so awesome. Giving is a great habit to teach your kids while actually having fun at the same time.

4 – play silly games at home with things from around the house

Get on Pinterest and search silly family games. You will find no short supply of wacky fun for all ages. Using items from around the house is even better – no cost and it can be like a family scavenger hunt to find needed items for the games.

5 – give them your time – the most amazing gift you can give

No matter what – this is the biggie. In a fast paced world where smart phones and social media steal our attention all too easily, putting it all down for your kids is becoming a sacred practice. No matter if you have all the money in the world, it can’t buy time or happiness. You gift of being present – ALL PRESENT – is what they want. Read a book. Take a walk. Draw a funny family photo. They will think this is more fun that you’ll ever know.
