Here is how Wikipedia explains:
A backseat driver is a passenger in a vehicle who is not controlling the vehicle but who excessively comments on the driver’s actions and decisions in an attempt to control the vehicle.
In an attempt to control.
BUT – they are not controlling….
They’re in the BACKSEAT!
Isn’t this exactly what we do with God?
We’re not driving – yet we constantly give input, even excessive comments on what God should be doing and how life should be working.
We do all this in an attempt to take control.
Sometimes God is gracious enough to step aside and let us run things on our own.
Anybody ever crashed??
Jesus take the WHEEL!!
I personally don’t like backseat drivers and I know my husband doesn’t either because…well, let’s just say sometimes I like to be a passenger seat driver. Yup. That’s just as bad.
This song right here brings it all home. Warning – DAD – you will not like this song. Just stop reading and listening now. I warned you.
This one is for the young generation – turn it up and bump a little with Tobymac.
2nd Warning: this might just become your new favorite song.
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. “For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it. Isaiah 55: 8-11 ESV
