“Many of us who have found ourselves to be useful in Christian service have found ourselves unable, if we’re honest, to connect with God any other way. We do for him, instead of being with him. We become soldiers, instead of brothers and sisters and daughters and sons. This is dangerous, damaging territory, and I’ve spent too much time there.” – Shauna Niequist
I’ve been so guilty, friends.
A soldier marching to the beat of hustle and bustle, get things done, hurry up, move along.
There’s a deep longing for slowing down inside my weary soul. A longing to rest in the arms of my Savior. To focus more on being with him than doing for him.
Daughter-ness. I want that. How about you?
“These days, I’m relearning daughter-ness, and I find it most through silence and nature.” – Shauna Niequist
Below you’ll find several conversation starters for you and your people on being daughters and sons of the one true King.
- What does it mean to be a child of God? (See John 1:12-13 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.)
- Have you experienced getting caught up in doing for Jesus instead of being with Jesus? How can you change that?
- Name one way you can set aside time this week to be quiet and get away to spend time with your Father?
