I’ve cleaned out our closet under the stairs countless times.
It’s remained pretty decent lately, but has no sort of organization to the madness.
Some of you organizing divas think that’s a hot mess, right? All the while I look at that and say, “Not that bad!”
I’m not finished with this closet, but tonight on this #trashouttuesday I got a good start.
First of all, Brian picked up several of these big hooks for me at Lowe’s a few weeks ago.
We had a few already on the side walls, but they weren’t enough for everything we had hanging. The hooks got super full and it was difficult to get anything off of them. We have a ton of unused wall space and that’s an easy fix to add more hooks.
Many of the items I have hanging in this closet are seasonal decorations. I added hooks to the very top and put those out of reach. I mean really, I only need them 1 time per year!
Then, I added a few more hooks lower to accommodate our growing collection of umbrellas. My mom actually bought the girls more lately….really, mom??
Hanging there you’ll also see our reusable bags. I have got to get better at using these at the grocery store.
Next up, I added the teal and blue bins I found for $2 at Target on clearance. 3 fit perfectly on the shelf.
The next idea is what I’m most excited about. I saw this idea on Pinterest and actually had one of these hanging shoe things in the top of my closet collecting dust. I love how this keeps them organized, because we buy in bulk. Also, this idea actually makes it where my kids can get to the toilet paper and paper towels easily to get refills on their own.
The only problem is that I have just one of these and our current inventory didn’t fit. Easy fix – I’ll use up the extras and only buy 1 case at a time from now on. That should work great! This will help me see what we actually have instead of getting lost in the bottom of the closet and me buying more when we didn’t actually need it.
I know I’m not the only one that does that, right?
There’s more to come on this closet project, and adding a light to the closet is first on the list. I can’t see anything in there! It’s dark as a dungeon.
Under the stair closets can be awkward spaces to organize effectively. Don’t be afraid to try different ideas and hooks on the walls are certainly an easy and quick addition to utilize any wasted space.
