#1wordwednesday / the word that changed everything

There’s this one word. You may use it often. You may not use it often enough. Whatever the case, it can change everything.

{NO}.

I’m a people-pleaser that likes to jump up and down and say YES YES YES!

I get excited and do too much because – oh my goodness – think about the possibilities!!

I’m a dreamer, a believer, a motivator. I want to go further, farther and wider.

But there is a time and a season, friends.

Sometimes God whispers gently to my soul,

{no}.

Sometimes there aren’t enough hours in the day for all the yeses I’ve made – and I have to admit where I should have said no.

Have you been there?

I need to learn to say {no}.

Just this week I had an event on my calendar and up until 15 minutes before it started, I had full intentions on going. This was an optional event, one that would be good for me to attend – I mean really, it was a BIBLE study, y’all.

But – as I stood in our messy house, surrounded by laundry and guilt, I knew going to this study would take away from time with my family later in the day. And I’ve been doing that a lot lately. I sacrifice my hours in the day for things that take me away from being present with my family in the evenings.

This has to change.

I need to learn to say {no} for a season.

It’s hard. I’ll be the first to admit that reality. One day at a time, one situation at a time – we can learn to listen to God’s whispers and calling on our lives to find the best yes and the right no.

Want to walk this journey together? I’m leading a book club starting Thursday on Shauna’s book – Present Over Perfect. It’s not too late to join – you can read the first few days free online!

As you gather around the table with your family and friends tonight or later this week, talk about the word that changes everything {no}.

  • What situations in my life do I need help saying no?
  • Who can be an accountability and motivator to help me figure out priorities and weigh options?
  • What am I doing now that can be stopped for a season in order to refocus and get closer to where God has called me?
  • What is my big why – meaning – what keeps me motivated to get up each morning and do what I do with my next 24 hours?
