Each fall, we schedule family photos. We’ve done this for the past 4 years and I love looking back at how our family has changed.
This was our first year, 2012 – and the back drop was the corn field in the front of our neighborhood.
Then, I like to label 2013 as our “skinny” year – HA!
This is one of my very favorite photos taken in downtown Monroe, the small town we live in. Isn’t that church in the background so pretty?
2014 took us to a big tree in another small local town and we took our red chair as a prop. This is one of my favorites I have saved in color. Most of the others I love were in black and white.

Last year, we added Brock and went to a local neighborhood that has a beautiful clubhouse.

So, I’m not a planner by any means. I’m super spontaneous and perfect at procrastination. You may think seeing all of those images over the years that I plan our outfits…
Funny. I’m usually going through the clean laundry that isn’t hung up trying to find something that isn’t too wrinkled we can throw on and get out the door.
Nope. No planning involved.
I would love to be like those people that lay out their outfits and do pretty blog posts on what you should wear to your family photos.
But, that’s not me. And so I’ll leave that skill to those who do it best.
Tomorrow is our annual family photo day and I’ve been THINKING about what we should wear. Note: thinking is not doing.
I love Pinterest for ideas on color schemes and even on types of shots to share with my photographer.
Here is my board of photography inspiration I call “Photos like THIS”.
I love pops of color and this year I’m leaning most towards reds mixed with some plaids, denim and pops of yellow. We haven’t done that combination before and it looks fun for the fall! Also, the colors will work well for a Christmas card.
My favorite example is this one:
We’re headed to a local public park and also plan to stop by the corn fields in front of our house again for a shot that looks especially fall.
Before I leave – all of our family photos are taken by our friend, Erika Melson Photography. She’s AMAZING, y’all.
Pinterest is a great place to go for inspiration on what to wear and how to pose family photos. What have been your favorites over the years? Keeping a tradition of photos every year is a great way to watch your family grow and create special keepsakes for years to come.
