#slowitdownSunday / what I learned in Church this morning

the daily Starr slow it down Sunday

From the Sunday School lesson to the sermon, today was full of reminders that God wants a sacrifice from me.

When I’m dealing with someone that gets on my nerves – sacrifice. Don’t tell them off. Bite my lip and move on.

When I’m holding others around me to a standard I don’t even hold myself too (ouch), stop it. Sacrifice my need to criticize and give grace where grace abounds to me from Jesus Christ.

When I see others around me in the Christian ministry world holding themselves to a standard less than holiness, don’t even consider it. My body – including my tongue, what I eat, what I drink, what I do – it’s all a sacrifice presented to Jesus. God has indeed called us to live a life of holiness. Just because others have decided certain worldly things are OK, doesn’t mean it’s right. At all.

When we might be tempted to do life on our own without church (oh yes, I went there), get yourself into the house of the Lord. God instructed us to be a church body that lives and grows and matures together. If we’re neglecting being part of a local and thriving Biblical community, we’re going against God’s very instructions. And y’all – life is stinkin’ hard. Don’t you think it’s a bit easier to have a church family to surround and encourage you when you hit those moments and need someone to hold your arms up?

YES – it’s hard to get out of bed on some Sunday mornings. Yes, it’s hard to say no to things that make you miss church. Yes, it’s hard to make being in the house of God to worship a number one priority in life.

If it was easy, wouldn’t everyone do it? Everyone else says go to church when you feel like it. But, God. Oh, but God – He says don’t be like everyone else in this world.

Yep. It’s a SACRIFICE. One that is worth every bit of blood, sweat and tears. One that is worth investing in growing my own faith and making sure my children know that being in church is a priority for this family.

God has called me to live a life worthy of the calling He’s put on me. No matter how big or small the spotlight might be, I am called to show up and go where He leads. Part of that is writing in this space – no matter who reads.

And here’s the thing – He’s given you a calling too. Don’t know what it is? Ask Him. I promise He will start revealing to you how you’re called to serve, share, teach, give, help, and care for others. That’s what life is about y’all. Being more like Jesus and inviting others to come along on this journey to live in Christ.

I shared this short video clip as part of our Sunday School lesson today. Life is better when you go to church together.

God, help me slow down tonight and remember all the ways you’ve called me to sacrifice. Let me give a sacrifice of praise in everything I do.

How is God calling you to sacrifice today? Spend time with Him and ask Him to reveal His plan in your life. What can you give over completely to Him, laying down your will for His perfectness and nothing less?
