#thirstythursday / 2 things – just keep showing up and just be YOU

the daily Starr thirsty thursday

There has been a theme running through my head over the past several weeks.

Just keep showing up, Starr.

When it’s hard, just keep showing up.
When you’re tired, just keep showing up.
When you’re discouraged, just keep showing up.
When you don’t see the fruit of your labor, just keep showing up.
When you really want to quit and cry, just keep showing up.
When you feel in-between your calling and purpose, just keep showing up.

I’m clinging to this promise from the book of Isaiah:

16This is what the Lord says—

he who made a way through the sea,

a path through the mighty waters,

17who drew out the chariots and horses,

the army and reinforcements together,

and they lay there, never to rise again,

extinguished, snuffed out like a wick:

18“Forget the former things;

do not dwell on the past.

19See, I am doing a new thing!

Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?

I am making a way in the wilderness

and streams in the wasteland.

Isaiah 43:16-19

See, friends – God is doing a NEW THING!

Do we dare not recognize it?

He is indeed making a way in whatever our wilderness may be and there will be streams in the desert.

He promised.

And God keeps His promises. Always.

When things don’t go fast enough
or right enough
or good enough in our lives,

we’re constantly tempted to compare ourselves to those we see around us.

Brian reminds me often, “Don’t compare your insides to other people’s outsides.”

Preach.

I don’t want to be HER.

I don’t want to have THAT.

I don’t want to be like THEM.

I don’t want to get caught up in the thief of comparison.

Jesus, I just want to keep showing up and I want to be the very best ME that God created.

Right here. Right now.

Jen Hatmaker posted this on Facebook earlier this week and it hit me hard.

Onward, y’all.

Just keep showing up.

Just keep being the very best you.

Amen. And AMEN.

Have we sold ourselves short by giving up and wanting to be like everyone around us?

  • Pull out your Bible and read Isaiah 43.
  • Circle the promises, every single one of them.
  • Write down those verses that speak to you on an index card – tape it to your bathroom mirror.
  • Every time you’re tempted to give up or to fall into comparison, pull out Isaiah 43 and re-read the truths God has given us.
