Can you even believe it? One year ago today, our morning started off like this:
August 24, 2015 –
Kayla’s first day of 2nd Grade
Kylie’s first day of being a big sister
Brian’s first day with another boy
My first day of having a son!
We rode as a family to drop Kayla off for a morning of school – because really, who can miss the first day??
Here was the sunrise as we pulled back into the neighborhood on the morning you were born.
Just a few hours later, God gave us our first son.
You’ll learn I’m not good with numbers and I’ll never be able to remember the times and weight and such – so here you go.
I got really sick after you were born and actually didn’t get to hold you in my arms for a few hours.
You finally opened those beautiful eyes to see who these crazy people were.
This is your first photo with Daddy:
And within a few hours they required us to send you off to the Pediatric Intensive Care so they could monitor your sugar levels. You would actually end up staying there for the entire next day and I don’t know how your daddy and I made those long trips down the hallway every hour or so to visit.
Finally, you were back in our arms and I got my first photo #selfieswithBrock.
The family was more than excited to come meet our newest member.
And this photo pretty much sums up your thoughts on sleeping, especially while not being held:
I want you to know how much your sisters ADORE you. Simply adore.
Yeah, they are a little crazy. You’ll get used to them, I promise.
You actually look exactly like Kayla did as a baby – hair and all.
Yep, put a polka-dot bathing suit on you and we’d be totally confused!!
I want you to remember how church and faith was such a big part of our family. Papa Kelly is our Pastor and we cherish our church family. Here you are on your first Sunday at Living Praise!
I want you to know how much I’ve been changed as part of being your mom. Over this past year I have felt God stirring something special in my heart. Part of that is within our family. I want to live out purpose every day in all that we do. I want to slow down enough to realize our family is one of my highest callings. If I accomplish anything, let it be that I raised children who love God in a home that overflows with encouragement.
Your curiosity cracks us up! You are our very own Curious George.
You get into EVERYTHING and I’m pretty sure you might be our first kid to climb out of the crib.
You weigh almost 30 pounds at 1 year old and my back and neck can prove it. Goodness. It’s like carrying around a REALLY HEAVY bowling ball!!
I’ll be the first to admit – I didn’t know how I would fare as a boy mom. What in the world was I worried about?? I couldn’t imagine our family without you, Brock.

I’ve started a tradition of picking a Bible verse for each of you on your birthday – to keep and pray over you during the coming year.
My verse for you in 2016 is this:
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makes me dwell in safety. Psalm 4:8
And all the mamas who need sweet sleep said, “AMEN!”
Always remember how much I loved being your mom.
Happy 1st Birthday, Brock.
