Here we are – the Haigler Adventure Bus pulled out of the driveway this morning ready to tackle another #funfriday!
Brock looks thrilled, right?
The girls had no clue where we were going. They were confused about why they couldn’t go to camp and school. Kayla guessed we were going to the Olympics. HAHAHAHAH. Then New York. Nope. Then the beach. Nope. Then Tennessee. Nope.
We could have titled today “Take Our Kids to Work” day.
Brian and I have always been for turning our real estate work into family adventures. Up for today? A sign needed to be added to a lot we have listed for sale in beautiful Lake Lure, NC!
Lake Lure is about 2 hours from home and is surrounded by all kinds of fun North Carolina beauty I can remember visiting as a little girl with my mom and dad.
Our client has a lot directly across from a place called Apple Valley.
Look at those gorgeous skies and views!!
Brock got out of his car seat to play while we unloaded the sign. I could not get him to smile for anything today.
After finishing up our work, we headed towards Chimney Rock – a short drive around Lake Lure.
Something I read said this rock is over 550 years old.
We stopped for some lunch before tackling the big rock.
This is a little restaurant directly at the entrance to Chimney Rock called Old Rock Cafe. It was perfect for a quick lunch.
Next, we headed up the mountain. By this time, the lady at the ticket counter told us it was late in the afternoon and our tickets would actually be good for the rest of the day and all day tomorrow!! SUPER!!!
There is also a riverwalk area downtown where people gather to play in the water. We had plans to do that after we finished our rock climb.
Hmmmm, those storm clouds seemed to be getting darker and we could hear rumbles of thunder. No worries, we’d go ahead to the top of the rock and wait out the summer storm.
Here was our view when we pulled in the parking lot to get out.
You could actually see the rain blowing in to the left. We sat and watched. And waited.
Before long, this was our view. FOR THE NEXT HOUR.
FUN times, let me tell ya! Thankfully, Brock slept and the girls played. At one point, we couldn’t see any of the mountains in front of us. It was a crazy storm!
We decided it would be best to just go back down the mountain and go on our merry way. Our tickets are good for tomorrow, yay!
The agenda for tomorrow was to go to Mount Mitchell – the highest point this side of the Mississippi in the United States! How have I never been there??
Between Chimney Rock and Mount Mitchell is a little town called Montreat. And who knew Montreat College had a hotel for regular people to stay in??
I was not about to shell out crazy money for our 1 night mountain stay. These places can get super expensive in the NC mountains over the summer. The Assembly Inn came up in my google maps search and I called to see if they had availability. We have a 2 room suite for $109!!! Yeah!!!
I didn’t take any photos tonight here at the hotel cause we’re all tired. Ooops.
Here is the website:
This is a historic inn and let me tell you the grounds are BEAUTIFUL! If you’re looking for a quiet retreat, come to Montreat.
And here is what we found when we pulled onto the property!!
Nice, right? No worries, there was a detour around the entrance, ha!
We got Wendy’s nuggets to-go for dinner and headed to the park here at Montreat to let the kids run wild.
For the first time ever, our girls got to experience their feet in a cold mountain creek.
I’m pretty sure my face was just as priceless when I was a little girl!
Brock just sat and watched.
Even though our day turned out nothing like we expected, we still had fun!
Now to wrangle these kiddos into bed.
Encouragement for the Day
