Today’s #makeovermonday features a fabulous DIY project from one of my blog readers, Judy!
I was scrolling Facebook and came across this post:
Did y’all see that? $2 nightstand from a yard sale!! Woooohoooo!!!
I asked Judy to send me all the step by step details so you guys can see what a fantastic job she did in making this piece a beautiful addition to her home.
Here is the before in all its $2 glory:
#1: Judy repaired the trim using Spackle where it was broken beside one of the drawers.
Per her instructions, she used rubber gloves and created a big glob of paste. Once it dried, she used sandpaper to trim it down to match the original frame.
#2: Next, she painted the entire piece white using this Waverly chalk paint from Wal-mart.
Judy shared with me that it took 2 coats of the paint, no sanding or prepping. Just slap it right on there!! She’s my kind of girl 🙂
#3: Add fabric and decoupage to the drawer insets. Judy used fabric from Wal-mart that she had leftover from another project. She waited for the fabric to dry and trimmed off the extra after the first coat was applied. I love using what you have and this fabric looks like it was made for this dresser! I’ve never tried fabric on a piece of furniture, but I’m absolutely inspired by Judy’s piece.
#4: Spray paint the original drawer hardware. I’m a huge fan of using the original hardware when you can. Those pieces don’t even look the same! Here is the spray Judy used.
I absolutely LOVE how this makeover turned out! This makes me want to curl up with a good book and read. The look is fresh, charming and perfect for her space. I’m sure the person she picked this up from at the yard sale for $2 wouldn’t even believe this is the same piece, right?
Thanks for sharing the details to inspire us all, Judy! I have a few pieces of my own that have been picked up off the side of the road sitting in our garage waiting on some love. Want to come over and help???
