Several years ago my mentor shared how he and his wife host all of their grandkids for 3-4 days during the summer for a week of crazy fun. They call it “Grandy Camp”!
They have theme songs, intentional conversations, bacon for breakfast, day field trips, train rides, river fun and more. Every year I look forward to hearing about Grandy Camp and all that they have planned for their family. They even give Camper of the Year awards!!
Did you know there are almost 40 MILLION people traveling on the roads this weekend???
Ummm no. Just NO.
As tempted as I was to pack a suitcase (or 10) and get our little family in the car for a long weekend roadtrip, I couldn’t imagine fighting the crowds. Especially at the beach – we made that mistake for the first time ever several years ago and I said NEVER again. We don’t do well waiting 2+ hours in line for pretty much anything, especially dinner.
A staycation would be just fine for our family this holiday weekend.
What better time to kick off our own Family Camp 2016??
Yayyy!! I don’t know how many days it will last, but we’re gonna have some intentional family bonding time this long weekend.
Our Family Camp 2016 Theme: Do Life BIG!
Big Dreams, Big Life, Big GOD!
If you haven’t heard this song from Jamie Grace, listen now. You will smile. I promise!
That’s our theme song for Family Camp 2016.
We started the evening by kicking off our family camp at the pool, which was fantastic because everyone else is on vacation!
After swimming, we stopped by Smoothie King for dinner. They have any 32 ounce smoothie on Fridays for $5. We got 3 of them and split it up between everyone.
Brock enjoyed his smoothie.
Over our smoothie dinner, we talked about Big Dreams.
Kylie wants to get a dragon to ride on and fly. She also wants to go to Disney. And to see the Statue of Liberty. And the mountains when it snows. She has LOTS of big dreams, ha!
Kayla wants to get a job and also go to college on a scholarship. She doesn’t know what she wants to do, though! She also wants to see NYC and Brazil.
I want to see Niagara Falls as a family and to own a barn/farm so we can run around like crazy!
Brian – well, he has the biggest dream of all. He wants to own the Old Edwards Inn. That’s our favorite mountain getaway.
I’m just crazy enough to believe he might achieve his big dream one day!
Brock’s dreams are to eat. Anything.
We’re ready to do Life BIG! Want to come along? We’ll keep ya posted as we continue Family Camp 2016!
Encouragement for the day
