It’s #1wordwednesday and time for conversations around the dinner table!
“God wants us to become comfortable with being uncomfortable!”
Our human nature is to crave comfort. In our home. In our marriage. In our family. On vacation. Whatever, man. Let’s just be comfortable.
We buy mattresses that form to our bodies or adjust to our desired level of softness – even if different from the person on the opposite side of the bed. We buy cars with seats that have the ability to heat and cool our bottoms. Yes, yes we do.
Our homes are equipped with thermostats to keep us the perfect temperature – well, unless it’s 1000 degrees outside and your air is like mine and can’t keep up on hot summer days in the south!
We truly want to be a comfortable people.
And God likes to challenge our human nature, amen??
Gather around your phone or computer tonight at the dinner table and watch this video from Francis Chan:
Questions to spark conversation around the dinner table tonight with friends and family – choose 1 or talk about them all!
- Name one way you’ve played it safe or comfortable in life – imagine being the one hurdled on the balance beam. Why did you choose comfortable over taking a risk?
- What is one way God is speaking to you to be more uncomfortable? Can you take action on that in the next 24 hours? How?
- Do you know someone who is a risk-taker? Someone that is ok with being uncomfortable? What do you like about that person? How do you feel when you’re around them? Are you inspired?
Scripture reference for being unCOMFORTABLE:
Let’s all go have meaningful conversations around the dinner table, shall we – maybe we’ll be a bit uncomfortable? That’s GREAT!!
