Our front door has been a bit of a mess for a while.
The glass part has settled and you can see about half an inch above the glass where there is no paint. Brian promises me the door is not going to fall apart… I’m not so sure.
We’ve lived here almost 10 years and never changed a thing about the exterior of our home.
Last week we were in Lowe’s and I got a wild hair to buy paint for the front door.
Our house has yellow siding (NOT my choice, I don’t really care for the pale yellow). We also have stone and cedar shakes. Our shutters and door have always been navy blue, but our house gets the blazing afternoon sun and it has severely faded the shutters. It all needs painting, badly.
I did a quick search on Pinterest for “yellow houses” to get ideas for the door and shutter colors.
This was my absolute FAVORITE!
The siding is pretty close to our yellow and that door color is Benjamin Moore Wythe Blue. I’m not sure what the blue shutter color is (the blog author never shared) but it is pretty close to the navy we have already.
I grabbed a can of my Valspar Exterior Primer – by the way, they’ve updated the packaging since I bought it last.
This paint is $20 a can.
The paint people always look at me funny when I ask them to mix a color directly into the primer. I gave them the color I wanted – Benjamin Moore Wythe Blue – and after making sure I know “this is primer, not paint – you know that, right??” YES.
They mixed my color and we were out the door!
I came home today and started painting. I did wipe off the bird poop before painting. But that’s about it.
Brian took the door hardware off for me about halfway through since I was trying to be all careful. That made it much easier.
It only took about 2 quick coats of the primer straight onto the door – no sanding.
You can see the faded blue shutters above. We’ll have those painted soon – I’m going to stay with a similar dark blue for those.
Here’s a before and after shot for comparison.
And I should admit that I can’t grow flowers on our front porch for anything. But, my mom – who lives across the street, SHE CAN!!
I wasn’t even afraid to walk over, ring the doorbell, and let her know that I’m borrowing her flowers for a photo!
Full disclosure – the rest of the porch doesn’t look very good and perfect like this photo above.
Yep. Hiding behind those tall bushes are all my projects. Don’t you laugh.
Our neighbors LOVE US!!
Just about like my friend that texted me these photos today with the same caption about neighbors loving us!!!
Oh yes. She had a water leak in her laundry room today that left her with an entire load of soaking wet clothes. What else do you do?? Hang them out to dry all over the backyard, of course!!
In case you missed it – from the past week on the blog:
