#thirstythursday / Jesus asked, “What do you want me to do for you?”

“What do you want Me to do for you?” He said,  —Luke 18:41

Jesus is asking the question above to a blind beggar sitting by the road on the way to Jericho.

Maybe the terrain looked a little like this:

That’s Jericho in the distance.

Have you ever seen someone that is blind?

I’m not being mean, but it’s pretty easy to tell they can’t see.

This blind beggar was sitting on the side of the road asking people around him what is happening and the crowd tells him that Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.

Obviously the man had heard of Jesus and the miracles and immediately he begins calling out for Jesus to have mercy on him.

The man is brought to Jesus by the crowd.

Isn’t it pretty obvious the man wants to be healed of his blindness?

I think so.

Still.

Jesus asked him the question directly:

“What do you want Me to do for you?”

The blind beggar needed to speak his need.
He couldn’t see.
He couldn’t do anything about it.
He needed a miracle.

“Lord, I want to see,” he replied.

42 Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight; your faith has healed you.” 43 Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus, praising God. When all the people saw it, they also praised God.

I’m crazy enough to believe Jesus told us this story for a reason.

I believe He’s doing the same for me and you.

He’s asking.

“What do you want Me to do for you?”

What is that desperate need in my life I think is so obvious to God — so obvious I don’t even speak it to Him because I think He already knows good and well?

What is that 1 miracle I need because I can’t do it on my own? There’s no human way, only divine supernatural intervention will work.

Speak it to Jesus.

Right now.

I’m waiting.

Go ahead. Your turn.

Lord, hear the cries of Your children tonight. You’re asking and we’re speaking in faith. I believe You’re doing mighty things in our lives and we’re going to follow Jesus, praising God.

How about let’s write down what we told the Lord just now? Grab a sheet of paper or a journal and document the night you asked. He’s listening.

  1. I needed this reminder. There is a special unspoken request for prayer. I have told My Lord. I am hoping my Faith will bring the answer. I wrote it down. (I do much better with guided journaling BTW). Right on time again. Thank you so much! G
