We have company coming this week to visit!
As I prepared our guest room for their arrival, I started thinking about my favorite things to do to make our guests feel special.
I also laughed because one of our guests totally called me out last time on not being able to find an outlet in the room (because of all our stuff…haha!) and I made sure to get a power plug ready for her this week!
Here is today’s #shareitsaturday:
5 things your guest needs (that they probably won’t tell you)
#1 – a bedside table with a lamp and alarm clock
You’re in a strange and unfamiliar house. You don’t want to have to get up in the dark and turn the overhead light off. You also don’t want to have to depend on your phone to tell you the time when you wake up in the middle of the night. A simple bedside table with a lamp and alarm clock make your guests feel like they are at home.
#2 – a power strip beside the bed
People travel with phones, laptops and tablets. They don’t want to be scavenging your room to find enough outlets to charge while they are visiting. Almost all of our outlets in this room are behind furniture, so it is hard to navigate. These power strips are from IKEA and also come with convenient USB plugs in the bottom.
#3 – inspirational books
I love leaving a selection of my favorite books and devotionals on the bedside table. I want people to come and be relaxed and leave refreshed when they visit our home. These books I select will help them do just that. I personally change them up every time someone visits. I ask God to lead me to put exactly the book someone needs to read on that table.
#4 – a large mirror to use if the bathroom is occupied
We only have 1 guest bathroom for 3 bedrooms upstairs. When we have lots of people over, you can imagine how the restroom is full most times – especially during morning hours if we’re going to be out and about. I found that adding a large mirror and space to get ready in the bedrooms gives more freedom to allow others in the bathroom.
#5 – a small fan
Do you realize how many people travel with fans??? Ha! We aren’t really fan people, but we are noise people. We like sounds instead of dead silence. This small floor fan takes care of both. Our guest room tends to be warmer than the rest of the house since it faces the afternoon sun. Having this fan running helps circulate the air.
BONUS: fresh flowers
Our favorite hotel in the mountains always features fresh flowers. This just makes me feel special. Even if you have to use the same flowers your daughters got from their dance recital this past weekend, it’s the thought that counts, right? 🙂
We can’t wait for our company to come and enjoy our little getaway this week!
You’ll notice there’s a pile of blankets in the corner and lots of things on top of that dresser. I read an article last week that said imperfection makes your guests feel more comfortable!!! Well. Y’all just come on over and feel OH SO COMFORTABLE with us!
I mean, Aunt Debra should actually feel honored. She could have been sleeping here:
THAT WAS A WEEK AGO, btw!! 🙂
I forgot to take a photo of our food tonight! My mom made my absolute favorite meal ever – BBQ chicken, mac and cheese, green beans and salad.
We celebrated Joy’s sweet friend turning 15 for dessert. Happy 15th Birthday, Chloe! We absolutely love you to pieces, adopted daughter 🙂
In case you missed it; this week on the blog…
