#trashouttuesday / family project: label everything so they can help

I’m figuring out ways to get help with things I can’t keep up with.

One thing that happens with our clean laundry is little piles appear ALL over the house.

I present to you exhibit A, clothes ready to be put away for Kylie:

Exhibit B, clothes just in the floor in my room, because no one else has put them away or found matches to the lonely socks (and Brock’s blocks):

I spend a LOT of my time looking for items in our home that don’t have a place to go. Instead we live with piles of clutter. Some of those piles just can’t help themselves because they have no where to go!

As I thought through how the kiddos could help more with putting away their laundry, I concluded that they need to have a place for EVERYTHING and they need to know what those places are.

Many times part of their clothes get put up, but other items just linger because no one (but me) knows where they go.

Problem solved.

Insert Exhibit C, index card labels for EVERYTHING!

Tonight, we taped these to everything I could think of in their room.

And they helped, so there is buy in to why we are doing this!!

Kylie can’t read all of the words yet, but she can figure out her name! That’s a start – and Kayla can help her with the reading!

I made sure to put some items low in the drawers so Kylie can be sure to reach them. I’m taking away any excuses I can, people!

One reason we don’t have places for everything is the big switch around I did with all of our furniture over the past few months. I haven’t figured out the order and it has been paralyzing us with these piles of clothes and clutter that have no home.

That ends tonight!!

THIS feeling right here, is a fantastic end to #trashouttuesday!

We won’t keep the labels forever, but they sure will help with everyone knowing where their stuff goes! Kayla’s clothes are pretty much done, now on to Kylie and Brock – which should be interesting since I’m cramming all of their clothes into 1 room πŸ™‚

We WILL get there this year: a place for everything and everything in a place!
