#funfriday / our 1st gingerbread house…and maybe our last

Tonight on this #funfriday I’ve learned 2 important lessons:

#1 – Gingerbread houses are not as easy to make as they look.

#2 – I have very little patience when it comes to building a gingerbread house. Do people really think this is fun>>>>???

We started with one of those pre-made gingerbread house kits that were on sale this week at the supermarket. It looked like it should be easy and simple.

We emptied all of the candy into bowls.

And laid out our pre-made walls and roof.

Then, the construction began.

We had to wait 15 minutes for it to dry.

So we made hot chocolate and popped some popcorn.

In the meantime, Brock was busy laying on a blanket in the living room and he made his way all the way under the tree – knocking down ornaments and trying to eat part of the tree in the process. He’s a stinker. Look at that innocent face!!

Next, we started adding candy.

We ran out, so I found some more around the house to add!

The important thing is that it is still standing…for now.

Please notice the tree and gingerbread men that are in front of the house. By that time I was COMPLETELY over putting the icing on this piece and was just all “whatever man” with my sloppy icing skills. Lovely.

The Polar Express was probably my favorite part of #funfriday and I don’t know that you’ll ever see another gingerbread house on this blog hahah!!

  1. I must be weird. I love making gingerbread houses. I used to make them from scratch. I had the cookie cutters for the house and I would make one for each of the kids to take to their school class Christmas parties. It was lots of work but kids loved it.

  2. Awe I think you all did a great job! I hope it wasn’t too bad! Kristin and I are going to do one with Sweet P!
Little Brock is so cute and growing so fast!
    Thanks for posting!
    Love you all!

    1. You will be just fine!! But I would totally recommend checking out Joanne’s craft store before you buy a kit!! They had a frozen castle and a baby Jesus gingerbread set! I wish I had seen these first! They looked easier and our girls would have enjoyed those more 🙂

  3. My mom used to make the most amazing houses EVER!!! We got one every year to take to our class (of course this was before everything had to be store bought). I wish I could insert the picture here. I personally do not have the patience and would never make one ( not even one) I would send them to nana 🙂 you did great just trying it.

    1. I sooo wish you had a photo!! This is totally why the kids do wayyy more crafty things in Children’s church when your mom teaches 🙂
