Have you ever gathered all of your bath towels from around the house and counted them?
I did that tonight.
Oh my goodness gracious, we have 40 bath towels for 5 people.
This is insane.
And this is pretty much how it is much of the time. Most of them are dirty. And that creates more and more laundry that piles up around the house.
I don’t even know where all of these towels came from!! I remember buying maybe 10 of them. The others have just APPEARED – I’m telling you the truth. They multiplied while we were sleeping. I blame my grandma. She gave towels for Christmas presents. Every. Single. Year. Wrapped. Up. Under the tree.
We obviously have a towel problem – they are EVERYWHERE:
On the doors.
On the floor by the tub.
On the floor in the laundry room.
And then actually hanging on towel racks in the bathrooms. Imagine that.
Then, there are the lonely few that are actually folded and put away.
40. I don’t want that many towels.
Last week on #trashouttuesday I shared an article I found on Pinterest from the blog Make Room for Greatness titled, “20+ things you can get rid of without even missing”
One of the items that the author of this article recommended getting rid of was bath towels.
She said this:
Towels – Do you change your sheets every day? You’re probably touching your sheets 5-8 hours a day, whereas you only use a towel for a minute or two – at the cleanest part of your day. Say you use the same towel for a week or two – how many do you really need? This year we invested in towels that we love and cut down to one towel each + a couple guest towels. It’s been wonderful! Less laundry, less folding, more space in the cupboard, no more towels laying on the floor to guess if they’re dirty or clean or whose they are.
I’m brave, but I just don’t know about 1 towel for each person. I mean, some days I use 2 myself!!
So, we’re going to try this for a week: 2 towels for each person + 5 guest towels (because my family from Tennessee visits and there are a lot of them!!)
That takes our bath towel count down from 40 to 15. Woah.
No more of this in our house!!!
I think we can do it. I’ll let you know. If all goes well, I’ll donate our extra 25 towels over this holiday season to people that need them more than we do.
How about you? How many towels do you have? Want to try and get rid of them with us??
