Well, another #makeovermonday has rolled around and as of 8pm tonight I still had no clue what to do for a makeover this week (this happens pretty often in case you’re wondering). If anyone ever thought of me as the organized planner that has her act together…BHAHAHAH!
I’m the fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants girlfriend that you laugh at constantly. I’m the one who has always forgotten something and I’m improvising daily. I’m the one running 5 (sometimes 10) minutes late to everything.
So, as usual, I asked Brian what I should do for a makeover tonight. He didn’t hesitate to say the laundry room. He knows this is probably the room I dread most to tackle in our entire house. Besides our master closet. Goodness. This is the room that stuff goes in and never really comes out. It’s like our refrigerator.
There are bins with stained baby clothes from when Kylie was an infant that I put in a basket to deep clean “one day”. She’s 4 now. Wonder if there’s a stain remover for 4 year old stains????
Hi, my name is Starr and I have a laundry problem.
Y’all. Brian even volunteered to wash the clothes if I would make piles of wash loads in the hallway.
So, what did I do?
You know it.
WE tackled the laundry room. As a family.
In real Starr fashion, here you go. The BEFORE:
It seems that no one understands the sign above the door:
Well, no one except for Brian.
Step 1 when you want to really clean a room: GET EVERYTHING OUT!
That’s what we did.
There were handmade blankets from my grandmother in the corner that I need to hand wash. They have been there 5+ years. Maybe I should give those to mom to hand wash.
There were baskets with ugly Christmas sweaters.
There were bags that hold blankets and sheets.
There were lots of mattress covers.
There was a basket holding hangers.
There were car set cover parts.
There were empty laundry detergent bottles that need to be recycled.
There were towels and rugs and socks…OH MY!
There were LOTS OF DUST BUNNIES in the corners and against the baseboards.
There was actually an ironing board set up against the wall. WHAT? Did you miss it??
Under the green hamper. Yes. There it is.
Obviously, we iron ALL OF OUR CLOTHES. EVERYDAY.
Hold on, let me LOL for you again!!!!
And here you have the AFTER:
Oh, but wait. Those baskets. They are ALL EMPTY!
We already have cabinets on one side of the laundry room – thanks to my amazing Mother in-law who can build any kind of cabinet or furniture you like!
And I want to do more cabinets on this side of the room one day.
So, for now – this is part 1 of our Laundry Room makeover.
And don’t you worry. All that dirty laundry – it’s still dirty.
Brian’s got a LOT OF WASHING to do, folks!!!!
Side note: Brian just walked in here and asked why I set the ironing board up????
Oh my goodness.
BECAUSE WE IRON EVERYDAY!!
Don’t you know.
Be encouraged tonight. If you have a room or a space you’re dreading – just START. Get everything out. You’ll have a clean slate and a place to begin anew.
I still think Brian tricked me into cleaning out the laundry room.
Encouragement for the Day:
