#funfriday / gobble gobble DIY turkey wreath

For today’s #funfriday project we came home and made a turkey wreath for our front door!

I was inspired by my friend, Sheila, on Facebook:

We won’t even talk about her #iactuallycelebratethanksgivingbeforeChristmas hashtag!!!!

Isn’t that just the cutest thing??

So, I stopped by the craft store on the way home to pick up a few supplies.

I actually bought a grapevine wreath because A) it was cheaper than the Styrofoam and B) it is already brown, so I don’t have to wrap it with ribbon!

I also got a piece of red felt, googly eyes, these orange pipe cleaner things, and 3 colors of tulle: red, orange and yellow.

We bought several wreaths to make gifts for a few family and friends!

First I cut the tulle: it ended up being about 31 inches for the right size to loop around the wreath.

(I started with 39 inches and that was too long. 31 was just right).

Then, we alternated the colors around the wreath.

Then we added the orange piece for the nose.

I just folded the long pipe cleaner over.

Then, I cut out the red piece to go over the nose. Not sure what that thing is called on a turkey.

I hot glued the red thing and the eyes on. I don’t have a photo of that process because a googly eye flipped over on my thumb and I have 3rd degree burns….ouch. Yes.

We had so much fun!! (even with super whiney kids and a hot glue gun burn – thank goodness Joy came to help).

I love that I’ll be able to take the thanksgiving items off easily and convert this to a Christmas wreath in just a few short weeks!

Gobble, gobble, friends! Happy Friday!

      1. Oh yes cause you have to get a real tree…. I can’t handle the real tree, but this year I may just be inspired to put my tree up at the same time that you do-get in the spirit early!
