we interrupt this blog to REST

Hi friends, this is COMPLETELY unlike me.

I’m super sick and I could use your prayers tonight.

Last night, I wrote a post very late (that didn’t go out via subscription alerts). Here’s the post in case you missed it:

#slowitdownSunday – when God whispers to rest and you don’t listen very well

rest the daily Starr

Confession: I’m not very good at slowing down.

But, this cold and congestion I’ve had for several weeks has taken its toll on me and my entire family. Let’s be real – life doesn’t stop.

How do you slow down when…

You have 3 kids under 7.
You’re nursing an 8 week old every 3 hours – and he likes to take an hour to eat. Do the math.
You run your own business that doesn’t stop.
Laundry doesn’t wash itself.
Your people get hungry and have to eat.
You lead worship in a small church.
You have a 2nd grader that has to be at school at 7am every morning or else the school attendance cops call you and want to meet with you about understanding the attendance policy. True story.

Yep, life continues on.

And then, you break your pinky toe while on vacation.

And you wonder if God is whispering in a tiny way to slow down and rest. Ahh, maybe.

But, you keep going.

Because houses need to have photos taken for work.
Because there’s a bonfire with the church youth group and you love bonfires.
Because there’s a fall festival and the weather is perfect and your oldest is performing.
Because life continues on and limping with a broken pinky toe is perfectly fine – while wearing your closed toe shoes because the doctor told you flip flops would not be appropriate to wear with a broken toe. Geez.

All the while, ignoring that little whisper to slow down and rest.

Until you’re stuck in bed and forced to take a sick day.

God has a way of making sure we slow down – even when we don’t listen, right?

He sure does.

And so I stayed home from church today with a really bad sore throat. And I rested. Until I got a little panicked that I might not be able to swallow and could possibly choke. Yes. Life with Starr is ALWAYS an adventure, people!!

So, we ventured to the ER tonight and they did a test and told me I was fine and sent me home. To rest.

And here I am.

Resting.

The giveaways will pick back up in the next day or so and I’ll add in a few extras later this week to account for the missed days – cause y’all know I’ve got a LOT of stuff to get rid of 🙂

I’m listening, God. Finally.

While I’m getting my rest on (ha!), here’s one of the most popular #makeovermonday posts ever:

  1. Hope you get to feeling better soon! Rest is such a hard concept as a Mother of young children. I remember never having a day off and at some point your body just insist that you rest. Praying for you!

  2. So sorry you are sick. I do not know how you do all you do. and still make time for and care about others. Rest. Take time for You. I will be praying for healing and time to rest for you. We will still be here when you get better! 😊
