31 Days of Giveaways / #makeovermonday painting a family chalk wall part 1

Today’s #makeovermonday is part 1 of painting a family chalk wall!

I’ve seen walls on all kinds of blogs and Pinterest for years showing different ways to utilize chalk walls. Most recently, I was totally inspired by an episode of Good Luck Charlie that our girls were watching on Netflix:

Yes, it is a fridge. And I don’t think Brian will allow me to paint our fridge anytime soon. But, I’m always drawn to the cool look of this chalk.

Here is the wall that I feel is perfect to use in our home:

And my lovely models 🙂

This wall sits directly beside our kitchen and living room. You see it as you walk down the stairs and it has high traffic in our home.

When I mentioned to Brian that I wanted to paint it black chalk paint, he wasn’t thrilled.

But, I painted anyways.

I had a ton of energy earlier tonight, but I’m not feeling the best with this cold and my energy dwindled.

So, here is the wall with 1 coat of paint that isn’t even dry yet.

Brian’s comment: “We’ll see if it grows on me!”

I’ll have it all finished with a few fun surprises next Monday on the blog, so stay tuned!

For today’s giveaway – I created a mini chalkboard for anyone that might want to use chalk signs in your home, but you don’t have room (or the desire) for a chalk wall.

This was actually a makeover in itself!

It started as a cheap $10 print that we used for staging homes. It’s been sitting in storage for years.

I almost forgot to take a before picture!!

I used my Valspar Exterior Primer in plain white to paint the outside first.

Also, I learned a trick to dip your chalk in water before writing on a chalkboard. It will show light right after you write, but then dry super dark and defined!

And it turned out super cute~

  1. I would love to win the chalkboard! My house just isn’t big enough for a chalk board wall! I think I would write…”Rejoice Always!!”

Still enjoying your blog Starr! Keep writing!

  2. Love the all the new chalk art stuff. I have one going up our stair case that reads, “As for me and my house we will serve the Lord.!!! One of my favorite verses. I’m going to post a pic on FB of another of my favorite pieces. I’d use one to put encouraging words for family members each day!

  3. So much going on at my house. I think I read about a months worth of your blogs tonight! I would write love notes to my husband and kids!!
