31 Days of Giveaways – Happy 1st Birthday to The Daily Starr Blog!

First of all – GOOD MORNING! (to those of you that receive text message alerts usually late at night – hope I didn’t wake you!)

Starting today and throughout the entire month of October, we’re changing things up on The Daily Starr blog. Today marks this blog’s 1st Birthday – wooohooo!

To celebrate, I’m hosting 31 Days of Giveaways for YOU!

Thursdays are typically called #thirstythursdayย here on the blog and in case you’re new – here’s what that means:

The day I get to drink Mt. Dew. Just Kidding. Remember the woman at the well from John Chapter 4? Each Thursday I focus on writing or sharing something from scripture to bring us all closer to Jesus. Jesus offered living water โ€“ that she would never thirst again. I’m thirsty for Jesus – how about you?

Our family has been on an adventure over the past year to incorporate more prayers and scripture into our every day lives.

Now don’t start thinking we’re perfect or anything. We still struggle to do this as a family. I just told Brian the other day how I wanted to get back into the routine of saying scriptures each night with our girls. This is hard to do, I know!

We have a few tools that we’ve used to help with our learning and growing as a family:

#1 : The Child Training Bible Kit

My friend Becca told me about this fantastic resource she uses with her kids. You can purchase the kit online > www.childtrainingbible.com < for $9. Basically, the cards give you all of the references and instructions on how to add tabs and highlight scriptures in your own Bible based on various topics you want to teach your children about – such as listening, laziness, lying, excuses, etc.

I shared a video about how we started using this tool last year –ย  > you can read more about it here <.

#2 : Index Cards

Our family uses index cards all over the house to remember the scriptures we’re learning. We put them in the bathroom, on the wall in the bedroom, in the kitchen, etc.

Here’s Kylie showing you the cards in our house:

#3 : Small Blank Cards for Encouragement on the Go

Blank cards are perfect to have on hand to give encouragement wherever you go! I keep some of these in my car and purse so that I can use them often.

#4 : A Prayer List

I like making a monthly prayer list at the beginning of each month to remember people and situations. I have mommy brain, so having a list handy in my Bible or next to the kitchen sink is super helpful. Today is the first of the month – why don’t you start your own prayer list today?

#5 : Washi Tape

This stuff is amazing. It’s pretty, comes in all sorts of designs, and attaches cards and papers to the walls without messing up the paint. And it holds really well! You can pick it up at Wal-mart, the Dollar store or any other retail place that sells office supplies.

#6 : A Family Prayer Journal

This is something new I want to start in our family. I’m taking a blank notebook and using it to record things our kids want us to pray about as a family. We’ll keep it simple. We may not add to it everyday, but I want this to be something they get use to doing at a young age – and I want them to look back and see how God answers prayers in their lives. How cool will it be to pass along family prayer journals to your kids one day? I’m pretty excited about starting this!

  1. Good morning. Happy Birthday Daily Starr!!! Love these ideas. Wish I had them when my kids were little.

  2. Prayer is something we use to do together before every meal… but now with the fast pace of our lives, we don’t always sit down together. However, now the rule is, as long as you say your prayer first, you may start your meal even if we all aren’t at the table.
The family prayer journal is something that I’d like to start.. maybe if only for 10 minutes right before everyone gets tucked in. Great idea, Starr!

    1. Yes, Renee! We’re going to start the journal too – I think it will be a great new tradition that our kids can take with them as they grow!

  3. I love the training bible kit that would go awesome with the little mini lesson I do with the boys ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. I love each and every item. My kids are grown but I have friends that Iโ€™d love the pass the training Bible on to. Although my kids are grown Iโ€™d still love to win the family prayer journal. Think Iโ€™ll start it even if I donโ€™t win.

    1. Dale – you’re our winner for today! I’ll send you an email with details today ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks for reading and commenting!

      1. What a nice surprise! I’m so excited!!! Thanks for everything. Love reading everyday!

  5. I would love to win, because I think the family prayer journal would be cool. We do not pray enough as a family and that would definitely encourage us to pray more as a family.

  6. You have such awesome ideas! With David working nights, Iโ€™m the main one that does the bible lessons and night time prayers. The family prayer journal is such a neat idea. It would be a way to keep us all involved, including David and praying together even if we set a time that we pray and David prays while at work! It will teach them young. Clay loves to pray for people in need and David leads prayer meeting at church so prayer is definitely a significant part of our lives but to keep track so we can look back and the children can experience proof of God answering their prayers is such an awesome thing!

    1. Yes, Kasey!! Let’s all start a family prayer journal. I can’t wait to see how God works in our families and in the hearts of our children!

  7. I am so very proud of you, my friend. Writing daily is not as easy as one might think. And you have done it. Congrats!!

  8. your child is so adorable !!! And remarkable the way she says the verses . I have tried on and off memorizing verses with my boys . But it kind of falls apart and we forget it ….
Well your blog birthday is my birthday too !
