Last week on #trashouttuesday we started a new theme for the month of September – all about storage solutions for your home!
September Storage Solutions: Week 2 – A DIY Jewelry Wall for Your Closet
I actually came up with this idea years ago when we first moved into our home. I convinced Brian to put up a peg board that we bought at Lowe’s. Then, we bought the hangers like they have in stores – it was like my very own Jewelry store!!
But….here’s how it has looked PRETTY MUCH the entire time I’ve had the peg board:
That’s terrible!! And Brian reminds me ALL the time about how I said, “Oh, if you build me a storage wall then I’ll keep my jewelry organized…”
Tonight I decided to tackle that big pile of STUFF and make this DIY jewelry wall usable again.
Once I got the area cleaned off, I decided to add several elements that I think will help me use the counter top more and keep the clutter from collecting again.
First, I found this cheap photo frame for $2.50 in the clearance section at Hobby Lobby several months ago. The back is about to fall apart, but that doesn’t matter if you put it on a photo stand!
Plus, the photo stand in this area can double as a holder for some of your jewelry. You can hang some of the pieces you wear most on the hooks – see the earrings at the top??
I also decided to add these cork board “pot holders” I found for a few bucks at IKEA!
It came in a pack of 3, but I decided to just use 1 for now.
I added 1 nail and put it on the side of the closet (I really only added one because Brian wasn’t thrilled that I was adding nails to the side of the closet wall hahah).
It’s perfect for earrings!
I also added a couple of pretty bowls to collect my random clutter, watches, etc. I wear cheap watches, so I like to have my collection 🙂
Also, did you know you could buy earring backs at Claire’s??? Genius. Especially for people like me that lose the backs all the time!
I added this cute little dish that my Aunt brought me back from IRAQ earlier this year. Yes, I did say IRAQ!!!
I have other earrings that I don’t wear as often that I keep in my dresser drawer. I organize those earrings in ice cube trays!!
My favorite piece in my closet is a ring holder we found at my grandmother’s house last summer!
And here’s the finished product of my DIY jewelry wall!
Do you have ideas for storing your jewelry too?

Happy Tuesday and happy organizing, friends 🙂
