We had a rare thing this week, the ability to clear our calendars and take the day off today for #funfriday!!
I’ve had a goal to do fun adventures with our girls this summer and wanted to specifically take a few small family road trips here in NC, just like my mom and dad did with me when I was a little girl!
One particular memory I have, was an adventure to the NC mountains and a little place called Tweetsie…
We packed our bags after work yesterday (my goal was to leave at 6pm…we left at 9:30pm…hmmmm) and drove to the mountains.
The girls had no clue where we were going, although they kept guessing the beach because that was our last surprise adventure, I guess 🙂 They only asked if we were there yet about 100 times, no big deal.
We stayed in a hotel and headed out this morning to the surprise that awaited us 5 minutes away:
We arrived, yet they still had no clue…haha!! They’ve never heard of this place and didn’t realize what they were in for. But, we stopped for a photo opp on the way in at the road anyways (because that’s what we do):
Can I just take this moment to say that it was 100+ degrees at home yesterday…and today it was 83 degrees here??? Heavenly, people. Heavenly.
Here is the Haigler Adventure through Tweetsie Railroad, 2015!
They had old-timey carriages:
And fake horses:
But, there were real horses too!!
And cowboys and outlaws that had gun fights!!
And a real coal burning steam locomotive – that was really used in World War II and uses up to 5 TONS of coal per day!!!
With a real conductor (who Kylie wouldn’t get near, ha!)
And there was this ferris wheel, that looked so nice and peaceful:
So, we all took a ride:
And the stinkin’ thing went faster than you can imagine and I am pretty sure I almost hurled off the side of the mountain…
So, daddy went for ride number 2 with both girls. And I took pictures.
And there were real cars that you steered into walls and pushed the gas and brakes – and we were on the side of a mountain…oh dear. And I’m pretty sure the bumps almost bumped Baby No Name Haigler #3 out!!!
And then there were Indians and real teepees!
On the very tip top of the mountain, there was this sweet zoo with real animals.
Kylie LOVES animals. Especially baby goats.
But, she figured out today that sometimes emus get a little excited about food and bite fingers.
She doesn’t really care for emus anymore.
Then there was this sweet little mini train that looked like a nice enjoyable ride.
But, it went a bit faster than we thought, ha!!
My favorite moments of today?
Recreating photos that I had with my parents back in the 80s (If I were home I’d share them with you!!!):
Watching this man of mine wrap his arms around his little girls that insisted on riding down the mountain with him and leaving mom alone (TOTALLY fine with me, by the way!!):
These little matching hair styles that they probably won’t let me do much longer:
And climbing a ginormous hill 5+ times with these 3 people who I love so much:
Thanks for the special memories, Tweetsie!
I’m sure we’ll be back in a few years with this little boy who will love trains and cars more than we know 🙂
Happy #funfriday, friends!
PS – I dare you to start creating special memories every single week – big and small – with your family NOW! It’s so worth every moment.
