#thirstythursday / have you made your kids sleep in their clothes lately?

This week started out with me determined to win the battle…

the battle with my three year old, to put her clothes on!

Really?

Yes.

Who knew a sweet 3 year old angel could fight and punch and scream, “NO NO NO NO NO!” and successfully take clothes off as soon as I managed to get them on??

I’m the parent. I’m 34 years old. I should have no trouble winning this battle.

The 3 year old gave me a run for my money, y’all. I’ve never experienced anything like it before.

And she returned 2 days later with the SAME exact routine, this time with her daddy (I honestly felt relieved that it wasn’t just me…)!

So, I did what any good parent would do:

I dressed her for bed last night in the clothes she would wear to school today!

Can I get an AMEN???

I also went directly to Amazon and rushed delivery for 2 books:

the new strong willed child    temper your childs tantrums

Oh, yes! Dr. Dobson to the rescue!! He certainly could help me and my strong willed child!!!

The books came in the mail today and after flipping through them for a few moments, two parts stuck out to me from “The New Strong-Willed Child” that I wanted to share with you for #thirstythursday:

First of all: Dr. Dobson reminds me that my #1 goal as a parent is to introduce my kids to Jesus and to ground them in the faith. YES!

That is the #1 goal – BUT, friends – they have to see me living this everyday, even at their young ages. Yes, they should see me getting on my knees and pouring my heart out to God for help. They will never forget that.

Have I done a great job of that? No.

Is that something I want to change in my parenting? YES.

Then, he gives us verses to cling to in Deuteronomy 6:6-9 –

I’m encouraged tonight through the Word.

This is important and God is teaching me through these everyday battles.

I pray that you are encouraged, too.

And know that you’re not alone if you’ve ever dressed your kids in clothes instead of pajamas!!!

Oh, and by the way – it worked 🙂

These look like clothes OR pajamas, right??

This morning was MUCH better in the Haigler house!

You’re teaching me, little strong-willed one. And for that, I’m thankful to be your mom.

  1. I am so proud of you. Some battles are not worth it. You get a big AMEN from me figuring out this one. You are the Mom and you out smarted the three year old. That is how we survive our strong willed children. You are doing a great job. From another mommy that has been there with several strong willed little ones.
