Last week on #trashouttuesday I announced that we were kicking off 31 days of freedom for our home!
My crazy goal: to take every single accessory and get it into our spare bedroom for the entire month of July!!
Why? Because I’m crazy. Or stupid, maybe.
Nahhh – I really did this to give our house (and family) a chance to breathe. To get a fresh start. To do some cleaning. To get rid of things that don’t make me happy in our home. And I’d heard of other people that have done this before and I wanted to give it a try!
So, the big question is “Did we do it?”
We are HALF WAY THERE!
Be it luck, I sent my blog last Tuesday night and then proceeded to get super sick with a stomach bug. My husband said that some people will do anything to get out of gathering all their stuff….
Maybe he was right!
I’m still not 100% back to my normal speed and this week has been a struggle.
We were able to finish (like within the last hour) a mad rush to get our upstairs de-accessorized.
Here are some pics of our progress so far.
The biggest difference for me and the first place I worked on this week: our master bath.
Before (aka a hot mess):
Why do I have these towels hanging that no one is allowed to ever use? WHY???
They have collected more dust than you can ever imagine. I’m done. Those towels are getting used and we are taking back our towel rack…to hang towels, that we use! What a novel idea!
It feels like a new house, and we just moved in!!!
Here’s the other bathroom with all the decorations moved out:
And our bedroom – wow.
The desk is even almost cleaned off. That’s a miracle. There’s never NOT been stuff in our room. EVER.
And PS – now I want to paint that dresser that the TV is on.
Brian’s dresser has never looked like this. Nothing.
I want to paint it too. Shocker.
Here’s the collection site for all our stuff during this month long (or longer if I choose) break:
So, what have I learned in the 1st week of making our house NEECKED??
– We have too much stuff. Gotta get rid of a lot.
– There’s so much stuff we had that I didn’t even remember.
– I don’t know how I’m going to fit the stuff from downstairs into this room????>
– I should have an indoor yard sale and let my friends come take stuff from this room, right???
– I REALLY like our house with less stuff. I like it way more than I ever thought I would.
I’m so glad I did this experiment.
It is teaching me to let go. And I need A LOT of help to let go.
Over the next few days I’ll continue working downstairs (which is a much bigger obstacle) and keep you updated via the next #trashouttuesday post!
Have you started creating any freedom in your home this month?
I’d love to hear all about it and see your progress too, friends!
