#trashouttuesday / mama said there’ll be days like this

My mama is one smart lady. She encourages me by the simple life she lives day in and day out.

She’s withstood stress and obstacles like no one else I’ve known. And she does it with a smile. “She’s ALWAYS in a good mood!” Right, Joy? (Inside family joke there about how mom is NEVER in a bad mood!!)

Mama said there’ll be days like this: I’m pooped, y’all.

Honest Starr here: I’ve not made a lot of progress this week with my April #trashouttuesday plan to get organized. It’s certainly not been laziness, just a slew of other priorities that have taken over. Anybody else been there lately?

In place of my own update for getting our home organized, I thought it would be great to share with you something that my mom is doing for 2015.

Each month we get up early on a Saturday morning and venture to the local homeless shelter to serve breakfast. I love the time we get to spend with each other and our little group that has grown to love this way of giving back together.

Here’s the cool part. My mom packs a little something extra in the car as we head to the shelter each month:

trash out tuesday the daily starr trash out tuesday 2 the daily starr trash out tuesday 3 the daily starr

She calls it her 31 items!

At the end of last year she committed to donate an item a day to the shelter for 2015. Simple: she gathers items from around the house, items she gets on clearance, items for super cheap with coupons – and drops them all at the shelter as we leave. It’s her own special, simple way of giving back and making a difference.

And it stinkin’ motivates me to keep going and keep givingno matter how hard or inconvenient it may seem at times. We’re each called to show the love of Jesus. Amen? Amen!

Thanks, mom. For being the person that you are. For living a life on purpose. And for being an example of one of the most loving people that I know. You ROCK! I wanna be a little more like you every day.

Proverb of the Day:
Some people are always greedy for more, but the godly love to give. [Proverbs 21:26 NLT]
