Remember last week’s #slowitdownSunday when I declared our family challenge to go a week without arguing and complaining?
Update: As I sit here tonight, our 7 year old is writing the following sentence 25 times:
I will not argue with mom and dad.
She even drew us a photo of her telling us no….nice.
It’s been a great week, obviously.
I can’t tell you that we all just got better at having a positive attitude this week. Yes, we were certainly more aware. But this, my friends, is an ongoing challenge.
As tempting as it may be to work myself up over the behavior of my sometimes out of control kids, I’m reminding myself tonight of what we talked about in Children’s Church this morning:
Philippians 4:6 NLT
6 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
Tonight, I choose this:
Don’t worry about anything (especially these kiddos that argue til they are blue in the face)
Pray about everything (even the smallest details that I think God could care less about)
Tell God what I need (cause I sure do need A LOT of help)
Thank Him for all He has done (everyday is a day of thanksgiving – God’s been so good to me!)
By doing the above, the Bible tells us that we will experience God’s peace – peace that exceeds ANYTHING I can understand. That peace will guard my heart and mind as I live in Christ Jesus.
So, as my husband threatens to pack up every toy in this house and put it away in the attic – I will take a deep breath, go through the bedtime routine, and hopefully slip away for a few moments to chat with God (possibly while in the bathtub ha!).
Be encouraged tonight that God is listening and His peace is there – just for you.
Proverb of the Day:
Sensible people control their temper; they earn respect by overlooking wrongs. [Proverbs 19:11 NLT]
