#slowitdownSunday / when you feel under attack

when you feel under attack slow it down sunday the daily starr

I gotta be honest, Brian and I have had one crazy week at work. It feels like we’ve been under attack in so many different ways.

And no one enjoys being under attack. AMEN?

It makes you get defensive.
You start assuming the worst (I should say I assume the worst, right Brian?).
Emotions are stirred.
Tempers flare.
We say things we don’t mean.
We act under pressure.

Attacks. Bah hum-bug!

So, here I go driving to church this morning feeling all victim like and stressing about things at work that I don’t have much control over. No, I don’t have control of the situations we’re facing, but I DO have control of my reactions and responses.

But, man, oh man…isn’t it much easier to have a pity party than to act like a grown up and LET IT GO???

Yep.

Fast forward through an upset tummy that caused me to miss Sunday School, leading worship where I tried to forget about situations and truly focus on being in the presence of Jehovah.

I sat down to listen to part 3 of our current sermon series at church on “What do I need to know about Easter?”

Today’s focus was on Palm Sunday and the Resurrection.

Instantly, I was reminded of everything Jesus went through during the days leading up to the crucifixion.

And suddenly, my problems didn’t seem so big.

Suddenly I realized that Jesus was also under attack. Yep, he was accused of things that weren’t true too. He didn’t argue. He simply stayed the course to fulfill the Father’s plan for salvation. Salvation for me and for you.

No, my situation doesn’t require me to go to trial, to be beaten for things I didn’t do. No, I’m not sentenced to be crucified on a cross.

Jesus did that for me.

And everything that I am facing with my current situations at work  – this too shall pass.

What can I do?

I can take my requests and petitions to Jesus and ask for wisdom.
I can pray about how we respond.
I can be an example to others on our team of living what I believe.
I can ask God for strength and understanding and hope and grace.
I can remind myself that Jesus went through so much more than I will likely ever face on earth.

I can #slowitdownSunday and focus this week on learning more about the life of Jesus. I can not only celebrate the resurrection next Sunday, but I can bask in the crucifixion and all that He endured on my behalf.

If you’re in a place of feeling under attack – I invite you to pray with me that God would open our hearts and minds to know that His plan is perfect. I pray for wisdom for you and for me – that we would live up to the name Christians.

Proverb of the Day:
A leader of good judgment gives stability; an exploiting leader leaves a trail of waste. [Proverbs 29:4 MSG]
