#1wordwednesday / integrity

I can remember being in the FBLA Club in high school – Future Business Leaders of America, oh yeah!!

The FBLA Club sponsored a statewide business conference with competitions each year and my teacher convinced me to compete in the job interview category. What fun, right? Ha!

In my very first competition interview I can still remember one of the questions:

“How would you define the word integrity?”

The best answer I could come up with on the spur of the moment:

“What you do and how you behave when no one else is looking.”

How in the world have I always remembered that interview and that question? I have no idea.

I can’t even remember what I had for lunch most days!

That definition has stood true to time over the years as I’ve had situations on and off the job where integrity was a huge part of the decisions I had to make on my own. It defines what you stand for. It isn’t always easy, but it is ALWAYS the right choice…

to live with integrity.

Today, I watched my husband face a battle.

It isn’t easy when someone questions what you stand for the most – your integrity and specifically your Christian ethics.

And that’s exactly what happened today.

If I’ve ever watched my husband get emotionally upset and physically bothered in our business, it has been when someone questions his motives or suggests that he did something that was not honest and ethical.

He really takes this part of his life seriously and it has become something I’ve learned to adore about my man. His passion for doing the right thing is part of who he is and how he leads.

Today as I brought the news of an awful review that appeared online, his reaction was beyond reproach. He simply stated that he knew without a doubt that he had made the right decision in the situation being questioned and that he had even taken the situation to our office leadership and management to ensure from a third party that we were making the right decision in the situation being questioned.

And y’all. He was so CALM.

I watched him talk the talk and walk the walk. And I was so proud.

I’ve learned today that things will come out of LEFT FIELD in our lives – things we would never expect. If we live a life of integrity, we can trust that we are doing the right thing and that God will help us when we fall short. We don’t have to lose it and fight back. We can gather strength from Jesus and encouragement from those around us to take life one day at a time. And to not believe everything we read on the internet 🙂

What’s your #1wordwednesday for this week, friend? I absolutely love hearing your words. They come to mind when I think and pray for you during the week!

Proverb of the Day:
When you’re given a box of candy, don’t gulp it all down; eat too much chocolate and you’ll make yourself sick; And when you find a friend, don’t outwear your welcome; show up at all hours and he’ll soon get fed up. [Proverbs 25:16-17 MSG]

    1. I am praying for Landon, Tara. I can so remember those days and struggles of my own childhood. God has a mighty purpose for Landon’s life and I am agreeing with you in lifting him up to Jesus!
