#trashouttuesday / let’s all toss out the negative thoughts

I’m veering a little from my typical #trashouttuesday post to talk a little about something that has really been on my mind the past few days.

WARNING: Soapbox time!!

Do you ever find yourself in a crappy negative slump? I sure do!

My words turn negative and that makes my thoughts turn more negative and it ends up being a vicious cycle of negative Nelly!!!

That’s no fun, y’all!

Have you ever been around a negative person? Yes.

Do you like it? Nope.

Does it brighten your day? Nope. Not one bit.

Yes, I am the first to admit all days are not sunshine and roses. And I don’t expect them to be.

But, there’s something I’ve learned the past few years. If I decide to be positive, speak positive words, smile, laugh and encourage – even my darkest days become brighter.

There is such power in our words. Yes, trials and situations can be difficult. What happens when we speak about those things OVER AND OVER AND OVER – giving credit to the enemy? We begin to believe that the enemy has the power and we doubt the power of Jesus. I’m not cool with that. “My God is so big, so strong and so mighty – there’s nothing my God cannot do!!” – to quote Veggie Tales 🙂 Those are the words I want  on repeat in my life. NOT defeat and doubt and confusion.

Before you start thinking I’m some super motivated happy person…This is not something that comes natural all of the time for me. Just ask my husband.

Poor Brian! He is the one that gets to see the 100% real Starr almost 24-7. I mean really, he even has to work with me!!! He could use your prayers, seriously.

I have an awful habit when it’s just the two of us to complain and be negative. And guess what? He’s the first to call me out on it.

I’m actually thankful for that.

What if we all had a friend that would commit to being that person in our lives that is willing to call us out in our negative Nelly moments?

We all need to vent at times and be real, yes. I’m talking more about the continual habit of negativity. You know the difference. We’ve all been there.

Friends, let’s practice tossing the negativity, shall we?

Some words of encouragement if you struggle like me:

The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit. Proverbs 18:21

You cannot have a positive life and a negative mind. – Joyce Meyer

Positive thinking will let you do everything better than negative thinking will. – Zig Ziglar

Finally, there is a class that Brian and I have taken together for our Real Estate business. The class is called BOLD and it does way more than teach you how to grow your business. They teach you how to grow and change your thinking. These are some of my favorite BOLD sayings and quotes directly from their Instagram:

Who’s with me for tossing the negativity in the trash today?

Proverb of the Day:
Know that wisdom is such to your soul; if you find it, there will be a future, and your hope will not be cut off.  [Proverbs 24:14 ESV]

  1. What a great idea for trashouttuesday. I need to be more mindful of what I say. Thank you for the reminder.
