For the past 16 years I’ve been part of this amazing group of people.
It started with my Aunt Debra in Tennessee. It was my freshman year of college and she lived about an hour away from campus. The Peddicord family officially took me in as their adopted daughter for the next 4 years.
We grilled steaks, went to UT football games (#GBO!), my uncle lectured me about driving too fast, and they picked me up when my car broke down. I will never forget the memories made with this family that I usually only got to see 1x per year.
My Aunt was into something new in 1999 called “Scrapbooking.” I had no clue what it was all about, but I would just show up for hours at a time to laugh with her crazy friends. All I had was photos. She would give me stickers, paper and tape. Fun, huh?
Well, I just kept coming back. Every year I travel back to Tennessee sometime during the month of March. I can’t officially say that I come to scrapbook, because, well, I never seem to get to that. I’ve been here since Wednesday and I have one piece of paper complete with no photo.
Isn’t my one page pretty?
I may not achieve great success in the world of scrapbooking, but I do provide plenty of entertainment for the ladies that come with us!! I’m also the DJ of the group – wooop wooop!
Here’s what our little getaway looks like:
Our group from 2014
Yes, we have a chef for the weekend. She’s Annette and she’s AHHHHMAZING!!
She cooks bacon. Lots and lots of bacon.
I dress up for the weekend. Entertainment, I told you.
Some people decorate with themes. We call them overachievers. They are ridiculous.
We do special projects together. They are tons of fun. One of the overachievers teaches us how to be awesome.
And some people need inspiration. Nice.
Presenting the fabulous #funfriday getaway friends of 2015:
I can’t tell you how thankful I am for these people. I’m also thankful for a husband that lets me get away, takes sick kiddos to the doctor and tends to everything at home while I’m away.
If you don’t have a group of friends, find some. Start a getaway. Do something together on purpose. Laugh. Cry. Sing loud. Do jumping jacks. Do life together.
To all of my scrappin’ friends: you will never know what you mean to me and how much I enjoy this one time of year. You inspire me to believe that friendships are so worth it.
Happy weekend, friends!

But you, lazybones, how long will you sleep? When will you wake up? [Proverb 6:9 NLT]
