I’m in the middle of our 40 Days of Lent Bible Study and one of our readings this week brought us to the point that if we focus on Jesus, so much in our lives would change.
Here’s part of what we read from the teachings of Jesus during His last week on earth:
Matthew 22:34-40 NLT
The Most Important Commandment
34But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees with his reply, they met together to question him again. 35One of them, an expert in religious law, tried to trap him with this question: 36“Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?”
37Jesus replied, “‘You must love the lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ 38This is the first and greatest commandment. 39A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.”
2 Commandments = THE ENTIRE LAW!
If we get those two right, we wouldn’t have to worry about anything else, right?
Yes, it’s really ALL ABOUT GOD. How hard is that for us to get through our hard heads?
Pretty hard for me.
It made me think of this song that we played in our wedding oh so many years ago:
It’s all about You, Jesus
And all this is for You
For Your glory and your fame
It’s not about me
As if You should do things my way
You alone are God
And I surrender to your ways
Jesus, lover of my soul
All consuming fire is in Your gaze
Jesus, I want you to know
I will follow you all my days
For no one else in history is like you
And history itself belongs to you
Alpha and Omega, You have loved me
And I will share eternity with You
“Jesus, Lover Of My Soul (It’s All About You)” by Passion
My mom also reminded me of that old hymn song, “Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus”:
Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.
God, help us all to remember the greatest commandments – to love You with all our hearts and to love our neighbors. Help us get these things right in our lives and I know that the things we worry and struggle with will grow strangely dim. It’s all about You, Jesus.
Proverb of the Day:
Fire goes out without wood, and quarrels disappear when gossip stops. [Proverbs 26:20 NLT]
