#makeovermonday / DIY canvas giveaway!

Several weeks ago on #makeovermonday I tackled our guest bedroom (just because we had company coming to visit hah!).

You might remember that the walls were left pretty empty and boring:

I don’t stress about trying to complete a room all at one time. I simply work on it in phases as I have the chance to.

Today, I decided to tackle a custom canvas that would be perfect for placing over the armoire.

Side Note: I’ve been thinking a lot about the 68 pillows and all of the extra decorating stuff that we have around our house. Maybe I should mention that Brian and I staged houses several years ago as part of our Real Estate business. Through that venture, I accumulated A LOT of decor items. We would have 2-3 houses staged at a time – and you could even find me stripping our own home decor to place in staged houses. We don’t stage houses anymore and we sold most of the furniture, but I have bins and bins of decor that I haven’t parted ways with. Add to that all of my grandmother’s decor and such that we cleaned out of her house this past summer and there ya go! Yes, we’ve got a lot of stuff, and pillows – too much for one family. My goal this year is to use it or give it away!!

Ok. Now we can proceed.

I’ve got several of these canvas prints that we used previously to stage homes that don’t really match our current decor. We purchased them super cheap at Family Dollar for less than $10 each.

Here’s the tools I used this afternoon for my DIY canvas makeover:

Supplies:

1) Valspar Latex Exterior Primer White Paint – no mixing, just buy it like it comes on the shelf.

2) Washi tape

3) a piece of twine that came off some kind of packaging that I saved

4) silver bow clips – you can buy these in the craft section at Hobby Lobby or any craft store

I’m really into white right now in our home, so I used my trusty white primer to cover it up!

Next I tried to place my piece of twine using the washi tape. That didn’t work so well, especially since the paint was a little damp still. I used the glue gun instead to attach the twine to the sides.

I covered up the glue spots with the washi tape:

I added these simple hair bow clips to the twine to attach my photos and cards:

I love how the canvas ended up and it fit perfectly in the spot for our extra bedroom.

Now for the fun part of #makeovermonday – who wants their own canvas??

Since I have 3 of these cute prints, I’m giving away a white canvas just like this one (photos of our family not included haha).

  1. This is so cute!!! If I win I would put it in our mud room we are redoing (which I wish you would come to my house and do it for me!!!!!)

  2. I would place my canvas in my bedroom. Our room is quite dull. It needs a makeover too. Add a little at a time, right?!?!

  3. I would use it in Zoie’s room for her to put pics of her and her friends. She got a retro polorois camera for Christmas. Those pics would look great!!!
