Everyone seems to have one.
I can remember them being part of almost every house I have ever lived in…
Here’s the dreaded “extra bedroom” in our house:
It’s a catch-all for extra comforters, extra bags, extra clothes, extra…whatever!
That is, UNTIL company comes 🙂
Our family from out of town came in for a visit this past weekend and it was time to tackle the dreaded extra bedroom.
Here’s our #makeovermonday for this week:
For the first time in 9 years since we’ve been in this house, I moved the bed to the other wall. I seriously had my doubts. And so did Brian – he sure did let me know that it looked stupid to block the windows with the bed when I started…hah!
And of course I get these crazy ideas to change stuff when I’m home by myself. I had to slide the mattress off to be able to move the bed and then I got stuck with all the furniture – so it had to wait until Brian got home – lucky him!
I took down the dark curtains and raised the rods (they are the same exact rods, I just took the end pieces off of them).
The curtains are SUPER cheap from IKEA – 2 panels for $6. You might remember they are the same ones I used to decorate Kayla’s Frozen Party table back in October.
Taking curtain rods all the way to the ceiling and widening them out a bit from the window will really make your windows look larger and your entire room too! I also like my curtains to drag the floor to create a taller wall space.
The floor lamp above was part of an old office set of lamps. We broke the glass globe during our move and it has been sitting in the corner of this room unused for ummmm 9 years or so. I had this huge oversized lampshade from IKEA. I actually bought it for another lamp and it didn’t fit. So, the lampshade sat in our garage for a few years, unused as well. I married the two together this week and they look fabulous!! It doesn’t fit perfectly, but you can make almost anything work with a bread tie 🙂
This little white side table is one I picked up a few years ago at our local Salvation Army store. It was an ugly wood color, and I painted it white. I absolutely LOVE it and it has become one of my favorite pieces in the house.
We had lots of people staying with us this weekend and only 1 guest bathroom – so, I knew that we needed to provide places for the ladies to get ready if the bathrooms were full. I added this little brown desk that Brian picked up off the side of the road for FREE in our neighborhood. I’ve done absolutely nothing to it – no paint, no nothing.
I still have a few finishing touches to add to the room – like wall decor. #onedaywhenimbored
Come back next week – I’m going to be working on a few custom canvases for our walls, AND I’m including one as a giveaway for blog readers YAY!
Have a spectacular week, friends ~
