Our master bath is the main hub bath of the home. Anyone else been there?
And then I take photos of baths in houses and I leave wishing this could be MY bath at home:
Yeah. Just a little bit different.
Since we don’t have the plans or funds to do a complete bath overhaul anytime soon, I have been paying attention to the little things in hotels and spas over the past several years that I can implement easily at home – and on a budget! Woooohoooo!
This afternoon, I tackled a quick project in less than 2 hours.
Here. We. Go!
Ahhh, the lovely metal sofa table that I’ve been using to hold towels.
We don’t have a linen closet in or near our bath, so the towels have to go somewhere in the bathroom. We’ve tried several different types of shelving units in this space and this type of table is finally what worked best, but I have HATED the dark metal colors.
I only used this because it was part of a full home of staging furniture we purchased a few years ago and came with the package. I almost sold it a few months ago, but then realized it was just what I wanted for this space.
It’s been on the back burner of the project list until this afternoon!
At 4:45pm I started cleaning off the dust bunnies and hair spray and moved all the towels. I brought in my old painting sheet and my trusty exterior primer paint!
Within 45 minutes I had finished about 3 coats on the piece and rinsed my brush to head out to get the girls from daycare! There’s still a few spots that need a touch up, but I’m a fan of the imperfect look – so I may just leave it for now 🙂
This gave the piece a few hours to dry while we picked up the girls and ran a few errands.
I came back home to redo the towels, clean up the paint stuff, and shop my house and other parts of the bathroom for pieces to get the look I wanted. I didn’t go out and buy a single thing – YAY!!
Annnnddd – here it is:
Here’s a few easy simple tricks to create your own spa bath at home on a budget:
1) Buy white and khaki towels – the colored ones always get spots and don’t transfer as well when you change your style
2) Roll your towels instead of folding them. All the fancy hotels and spas do this – and it’s so easy!
3) Buy glass jars at Wal-Mart or IKEA to put bath salts, oils and soaps in. This makes them look so much more appealing than keeping them in the bag or plastic containers.
4) A few baskets hold towels nicely and greenery makes it feel more soothing.
I’ll eventually add some fluffy white curtains, but not today 🙂
And the rest of my bathroom still looks like this….
But, luckily my view from the tub is the nice pretty shelf and towels for now – I think I’ll go enjoy that for a bit before bed 🙂
