Day 16: #thirstythursday / insanity

Have you ever heard the definition of insanity per Albert Einstein?

Who now feels like they might slightly be insane? Yep. Me too.

This quote in one of my devotional books, Draw the Circle by Mark Batterson, is what made me think about the definition of insanity. It is very similar, but with a God twist:

How many times have I wanted God to do something new in my life, but then I just keep doing the same old thing I’ve always done? I’ve got to get out of my regular routine. I’ve got to do something new if I want something new!

Psalm 96:1 says this:

Sing to the Lord a new song.

It’s that simple. We don’t have to over complicate things. We need a new song. We need a new passion to follow and find Christ. It’s time to start singing.

How do I do something new?

For me, that can be writing in a prayer journal everyday. Or spending the first few moments when I wake up and the last few moments before I go to sleep in prayer – giving God the beginning and end of my days. Or maybe it’s kneeling in prayer – something I’ve never really done except for at church. Who says kneeling is just for church? Ever tried it at home? Doing something new to get something we’ve never had…

Or maybe it means starting to watch and pay attention to those around me that have needs. Stopping long enough to ask how someone is doing and take time to hear their story, care about them, show the love of Jesus and do something. This is something new too. Are we so focused on our own problems that we ignore those around us?

No matter what it is – just do something you’ve never done.

I’m thirsty for more of God in my life. How about you?

#thirstythursday is a time on The Daily Starr where we dive into Scripture and see what God has to say. Jesus told the woman at the well that He could offer living water – and that she would never thirst again.

  1. I am paying attention. …and invited someone to church. Never invited a patient to our church but I did today. it was a great feeling to share what I am so passionate about with someone else. Thank goodness we have a Facebook page! I was able to give her our address directions and what time our service starts of course Sunday school. I was open to the Lord using me in a need of someone else it was awesome.sometimes you have to get out of your comfort zone.

  2. Melissa, good for you! Starr, I wish I was as purposeful as you are. I am trying to get out of my routine more often! I’m going to serve at the homeless shelter this Saturday, it’s been years since I’ve done that. I really do love doing something for others. I’m looking forward to making a difference in someone’s life this weekend.

    • Glad you are going with us, mom! And believe me – I don’t get it right often. Just keep circling and being open to what God wants to do in my life. Love you!
