Day 8: 1 Word Wednesday

It’s #1wordwednesday

We started this tradition a few months ago in our weekly choir rehearsal. Pick a word, any word. Think on that word and pray on that word. Tell others around you – it might encourage them to find their own 1 word. I sometimes let my 1 word linger into the week well past Wednesday.

Today’s word for me is EXCESS.

1 word wednesday excess

I’m struggling to let go of stuff. Last night I went through my closet and pulled out over half of what I own to donate. Still, there’s too much.

It’s a terrible feeling to sit in the middle of your closet floor and realize that your stuff has been holding onto you. It’s a terrible feeling to realize that your stuff has possibly been taking the place of your very being that should have been filled with God.

Stuff. Really.

How dumb is that? How did I let my excess get so out of control?

“Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions” (Luke 12:15)

It is time to change. Today is a new start. Less excess. A lot less excess.

How about you? What’s your 1 word for today?

  1. My word is Faith. To have faith that God is moving in some of the difficult areas of my life right now. Even if I can’t see it.

    1. Melissa, I love watching this journey that you are taking and seeing the woman of God that you are. I’m encouraged by your words and how you always make me feel like I’m not alone. Love you!
